Ensign Leads Tigers To 3-0 Win Over Brown In Women's Volleyball
November 04, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
Lindsey Ensign had a match-high 17 kills and four solo blocks to lead the Princeton women's volleyball team to a workmanlike 3-0 victory against Brown Saturday afternoon in Dillon Gym. Game scores were 30-22, 30-28 and 30-20.
With the win the Tigers (19-2, 9-2 Ivy) remain one-half game behind Cornell (10-2) in the Ivy League standings after the Big Red defeated Dartmouth by a 3-1 score Saturday. Princeton looked like it might have to go more than three games Saturday, but a big comeback in the second game ended that thought.
Ensign, who hit .536 for the match and had just two errors, ended the first game with two big kills and then was instrumental in bringing the Tigers back from a deficit in the second game. Princeton trailed 25-20 late in that game, but Ensign's solo block with the score tied at 27 gave Princeton the lead and her kill with the score tied at 28 gave the Tigers the lead again. Princeton then won the game on a ballhandling error by Brown setter Natalie Meyers on the next point.
Princeton then dominated the third game from the start, taking early leads of 9-3 and 12-5 to force Brown (8-16, 4-8 Ivy) to take a timeout. The Tigers ended the match on Sheena Donahue's kill, her 12th of the match.
The Tigers hit .303 for the match. Donahue's 12 kills came with just three errors, while Taylor Carroll also had a strong day with nine kills and just two errors in 17 attacks.
Shawn-Elyse Tulac led the Bears with 17 kills. Brown had defeated Princeton in Providence earlier this season to had the Tigers one of their two league losses to date.
Princeton plays at Columbia on Friday night and then Cornell Saturday night. The Tigers conclude their regular season the following Wednesday against Penn at Dillon Gym.
