Salmon Named ECACHL Player of the Week
November 07, 2006 | Women's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON -- Junior forward Brittany Salmon, who scored three of Princeton's five goals in a weekend sweep of Brown and Yale, was named the ECAC Hockey League's Player of the Week on Monday.
Salmon becomes Princeton's second weekly award winner of the season as Princeton improved to 4-0-1 in league play and moved into the top spot in the league standings. Last season, the trip to Brown and Yale was the only weekend of the season that the Tigers did not earn at least one win, and Princeton avenged that weekend by sweeping this one.
Salmon scored both of Princeton's goals in a 2-1 win on Saturday at Brown. Trailing in the second period, Salmon opened the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal as she stole the puck in the Brown zone and scored on a wraparound. Later in that period she gave Princeton the lead with a power-play tally.
A day later, her goal early in the second period gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in an eventual 3-1 win. The goal was her second game winner in as many days. Salmon now has four goals and an assist for five points this season. She has two game winners, two shorthanded goals and a power-play goal.
Salmon and the Tigers are back in action this weekend with league games against Union and Rensselaer on Friday and Saturday.
