The Princeton women's hockey team returns to action for the first time in three weeks this weekend when it plays host to ninth-ranked Ohio State this weekend at Baker Rink. Princeton is 9-5-2 overall at the midway point of the season.
Princeton's season has been one of streaks as the Tigers opened the year unbeaten in 10 games, before losing five in a row. That stretch was stopped the last time Princeton played, with a 1-0 win at Wayne State on Dec. 10. Princeton is 9-5-2 overall and 8-2-1 in the ECAC Hockey League.
Princeton split its weekend at Wayne State in early December losing 4-2 and winning 1-0. Those results bumped the Tigers from the top 10 of both polls as the Tigers are now receiving votes in both categories.
The Tigers close out their seven-game non-conference slate with this weekend's pair of game against Ohio State. The Tigers are 1-3-1 in non-league games this season with a win over Wayne State, a tie at Boston College and losses to Wayne State and Mercyhurst. All five games have come away from Baker Rink. Princeton was 4-3-2 in non-league play last season.
Princeton and Ohio State meet for the second-straight season as the teams played a series last year in Columbus. Princeton is 3-4-0 all-time against Ohio State in a series that began in 1999. Princeton is 2-1 against the Buckeyes at home, having picked up a win in November of 1999 and splitting a series in December of 2002. All three Princeton-Ohio State games at Baker Rink have been shutouts with Princeton winning 2-0 and 1-0 and Ohio State winning 4-0. Last season the teams split their series with Princeton taking the opener 4-1 as Laura Watt, Heather Jackson and Dina McCumber, all had two points apiece. Ohio State won the closing game of the series 2-1 as all three goals came in the second half of the third period. Brittany Salmon scored the Tiger goal.
Ohio State is 11-6-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the WCHA. The Buckeyes debuted in the national polls last week for the first time this season after splitting a pair of games with Minnesota-Duluth. Ohio State has also had a streaky season. After winning their first two games, the Buckeyes lost five in a row, before starting a 10-game unbeaten streak. Ohio State lost its last game.
Princeton returns to ECAC Hockey League action next weekend with a league series at Harvard and Dartmouth, the two teams directly ahead of Princeton in the standings. The Tigers were swept by the pair at home over the Thanksgiving weekend.
