No. 5 Women's Hockey Shuts Out Union 5-0 for Fifth-Straight Win

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The fifth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team ran its winning streak to five games with a 5-0 shutout on Friday night at Union. Junior Kim Pearce, one of four Tigers with a goal and assist in the contest, gave Princeton a lead 45 seconds into the game, and freshman netminder Kristen Young made 16 saves for her first career shutout.
Princeton improved to 16-6-4 overall with the win and 12-3-2 in the ECACHL play. The Tigers remain second in the league standings and will clinch home ice for the first round of the playoffs with a point in tomorrow's game at Union.
Pearce's 10th goal of the season 45 seconds into the contest was the only goal the Tigers needed as it held up as the game winner. Freshman Annie Greenwood had a helper on the goal.
Sophomore Brittany Salmon made the score 2-0 at the 5:59 mark of the first period from Pearce, then Greenwood made it 3-0 with her 22ns of the season at 7:41 from sophomore Marykate Oakley. Oakley scored the next goal at 10:49 of the first period and seniors Sarah Butsch and Heather Jackson assisted on it.
Butsch closed out the scoring with a shorthanded goal late in the second period. Senior Tarah Clark assisted on it. Young made 16 saves, including seven in the third period to improve to 2-1-0 on the season and notch the shutout.
Princeton completes the weekend tomorrow afternoon against Union.
