PRINCETON - Elyse Colgan scored in sudden-death overtime to lift the 18th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team to a 9-8 win over No. 17 Indiana on Saturday night at DeNunzio Pool. The win moved Princeton to 3-0 on the young season.
After jumping ahead on goals by Jazmin Brown and Samantha Shaughnessy in the first 1:09 of the game, Princeton fell behind 4-2 in the first period before a goal from Colgan made the score 4-3 after one period. Each team scored twice in the second period to give the Hoosiers a 6-5 lead at the half.
Goals from Brown and Megan Donahue tied the score 7-7 after three periods and neither team could score in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime. In the first ot session, Karina Reyner scored to give Princeton an 8-7 lead, but an Indiana goal from Linda Calvert in the second session forced a sudden-death session.
In the sudden-death period, Colgan scored her third goal of the game at 2:36 to lift Princeton to the win. Natalie Kim made 14 saves for the win in the cage.
Princeton meets Brown tomorrow at 12:15 p.m.
