PRINCETON - The Princeton women's water polo team defeated Ivy-rival Harvard 7-5 on Sunday to claim the championship at the Ivy League Invitational, held this weekend at DeNunzio Pool. Princeton also defeated Penn, Yale and Dartmouth during the tournament, which pitted teams, some club and some varsity, from six of the league's eight schools.
In Sunday's championship game, Princeton jumped to an early lead and was up 5-1 at the half. Harvard closed in through the last two periods but could not catch up as Princeton picked the win. Elyse Colgan's three goals led the charge for the Tigers, who also had two goals from Samantha Shaughnessy and single goals from Anne-Lise Maag and Megan Donahue. Natalie Kim made eight saves in the cage to improve to 5-0 this season.
Princeton's wins and stats from the games against Penn, Yale and Dartmouth will not count towards the official totals as those opponents do not compete at the varsity level.
Princeton returns to action next Saturday at home when the CWPA Southern season begins with games against George Washington and Bucknell.
