PRINCETON, N.J. - Erin Snyder continues to dominate, and so do her Princeton softball teammates. Monday against Brown (11-21, 1-3 Ivy), the senior righthander threw a two-hitter and struck out 19 batters, a career-high for a seven-inning game as the Tigers (20-9, 6-0 Ivy) topped Brown 3-0. In the second game, Kristen Schaus (9-5) completed the doubleheader shutout with a three-hitter in a 4-0 victory. The sweep clinched Princeton's 16th straight 20-win season and put the Tigers at 6-0 in league play for the first time since 2003.
GAME ONE
Cristina Cobb-Adams smashed a single to left to lead off the bottom of the first and came around to third when Brown left-fielder Kaitlyn Laabs had trouble fielding the ball. When slugger Kathryn Welch surprised the Brown defense by dropping a bunt single on a squeeze, Cobb-Adams scored standing up and Princeton was ahead 1-0. The Tigers added another in the second when Jackie Araneo converted Calli Jo Varner's leadoff triple by reaching on a fielder's choice.
Princeton went ahead 3-0 in the fifth. Araneo lined a single through the left side to lead off the frame and went to second on a sacrifice before Cobb-Adams picked her up to increase the Tiger advantage. Snyder (10-3) allowed just the two singles with another batter reaching on an error. The only time a Brown runner got to second base was on a steal. Snyder lowered her already impressive ERA to 0.78 and has not allowed a run all month, a string of 20 2/3 innings. During the stretch, Snyder has fanned 37 batters and walked none. Her previous high for a seven-inning game was 16 against Dartmouth last season and the only time she had more Ks was in a 10-inning contest against Harvard last year when she fanned 21.
Michelle Moses (5-9) earned Princeton's three runs, giving up six hits and a pair of walks, striking out two. Cobb-Adams went 2 for 3 for her third straight multi-hit game.
GAME TWO
Princeton went up 3-0 in its half of the second. After Snyder's leadoff double, Varner landed on second and picked up an RBI. Araneo then scored Varner as well as Amanda Erickson, whose ground ball was muffed by pitcher Kristen Schindler. The Tigers added another in the fifth when Snyder hit a two-out double that brought Larkin Brogan home from first.
Schaus took a no-hitter into the fourth inning, allowing only a walk before a two-out single by Kelsey Wilson gave Brown its first hit. The Bears had just two runners in scoring position in the nightcap as Schaus finished with 11 strikeouts and two walks, giving up only the three hits in her second shutout of the season.
Varner, Snyder and Stephanie Steel each had two hits in the nightcap, but Cobb-Adams and Welch saw their hitting streaks snapped at 11 games.
Kristen Schindler (1-8) allowed eight hits and earned three of Princeton's four runs, fanning two without a walk.
The Tigers visit Towson for a non-league twinbill Wednesday at 3 p.m. before hosting Columbia and Cornell next weekend.
