Princeton Field Hockey Announces Five-Member Class of 2010

PRINCETON - Princeton field hockey coach Kristen Holmes-Winn has announced that five freshman players that will join the field hockey program beginning with the 2006 fall semester.
"We are very excited to welcome such an athletically and academically diverse and gifted group of student-athletes," says Holmes-Winn. "This is a class who is just as talented in the classroom as they are on the hockey field. Highly motivated, independent, competitive and intense are just a few of the characteristics I would use to describe these young women. They are just flat out talented. The team and staff are looking forward to welcoming them to campus in August."
Christina Bortz (Striker Emmaus, Pa. Emmaus) was a teammate to reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year Sarah Reinprecht on the 2005-06 U.S. Under-21 team. Bortz was a NFHCA first-team All-American in 2005 and is a two-time all-state and all-conference honoree. She was an Academic All-America in 2005 as her Emmaus High School team won the Pennsylvania state championship in 2004 and 2005. Her 112 goals scored in high school was a school record. She competed at the 2003 and 2005 National Futures Tournament ad attended the 2005 Olympic Development Camp.
Katherine Cape (Midfield/Striker West Vancouver, B.C. Shawnigan Lake School) was a varsity starter in the ninth, 10th and 12th grades and captained her varsity team as a senior. In addition to her school team, she played on the regional and provincial U-16 and U-18 teams in 2004. Her brother David rows at Princeton.
Lauren Capps (Striker Glenelg, Md. Glenelg) was an all-state honorable mention and a senior and was named first-team all-county. She captained her carsity team as a senior and was a member of the state finalist team as a junior. She was an alternate to the 2005 U-19 National Futures Tournament and was named an all-star at the USFHA Team USA Camp. In addition she plays with the East Coast Field Hockey Club on a year-round basis. Kaitlyn Perrelle (Midfield/Back LaGrangeville, N.Y. The Hotchkiss School [Conn.]) was a part of four New England Championships while at Hotchkiss. She captained the team as a senior, was named a NFHCA first-team All-American and was selected the team's Most Valuable Player. Perrelle was an Olympic Development Select in 2005-06 and was a member of the USFHA U-19 Team that toured Holland in April of 2005 and 2006.
Cindy Wray (Goalie Newark, Del. St. Mark's School [Del.]) was a four-time varsity letter winner at St. Mark's and was the team's starting goalie for three seasons. She was the all-conference goalie all three years and has a career goals-against average of 0.92. As a senior she led her team to the state championship game and a national ranking of 18. Wray has participated in the USFHA Futures program since 2002.
The Princeton field hockey team finished the 2005 season with a 9-9 overall record and a perfect 7-0 record in Ivy League play. The Tigers begin their 2006 season on Sat., Sept. 2 when they travel to Richmond. Their first home game is eight days later on Sun., Sept. 10 against William & Mary.
