Thirdd Time Proves Charming For Women's Lights Against Top-Ranked Crimson
April 29, 2006 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
April 29, 2006
PRINCETON - The women's lightweight postseason got much more interesting Saturday, as the No. 2 Princeton Tigers knocked off the top-ranked Radcliffe Crimson in their home finale on Lake Carnegie. The win was Princeton's first in three tries against Radcliffe, but both teams know that the final two showdowns will mean the most.
Radcliffe jumped from No. 3 in the preseason to No. 1 with wins over Princeton in the Windermere Classic and the Knecht Cup. The Tigers could move back into the top spot this week, thanks to a 3.3-second win over the Crimson this weekend. Princeton finished in 7:22.2, while the No. 1 Crimson finished in 7:25.5.
Princeton also claimed wins in the fours (8:22.5) and the novice eight (7:42.0).
Princeton and Radcliffe will meet two more times this season, both times on Cooper River, the site of Radcliffe's win in the Knecht Cup. The first showdown will come May 14 at Eastern Sprints, and the final will come the first weekend in June for the IRA national championships.
