CHERRY HILL, N.J. - In less than two months, many of the same women's lightweight crews will gather at Cooper River in Camden, N.J., to race again. This time was for the Knecht Cup, but next time will be for an IRA national title. Princeton will enter that race knowing two things: it can race with anybody, and it needs to go a little faster to win it all.
Radcliffe claimed the 2006 Knecht Cup by 3.4 seconds over 2005 champion Princeton on Sunday. The Crimson came in at 7:08.9, while Princeton topped the rest of the field in 7:12.3. Two-time defending IRA champion Wisconsin placed third in 7:17.2.
Princeton did claim both of the other two grand finals. The varsity fours topped MIT by 8.4 seconds, finishing in a championship time of 8:32.2. The Tiger novice eight dominated its grand final, winning in a time of 7:45.4, more than eight seconds faster than Wisconsin.
