Eight Princeton athletes, including three 2006 Outdoor Heps champions and four 5,000-meter runners, will compete for the Tigers at the 2006 NCAA East Regional meet this weekend at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track.
Princeton's Heps champions competing in Greensboro are senior Frank Macreery in the 5,000 meters, junior Andrew Park in the pole vault and freshman Alex Pessala in the hammer throw.
Three other regional qualifiers will join Macreery in the 5,000 in Greensboro, giving Princeton a strong chance to qualify more than one athlete for that race in Sacramento. Frank Tinney, David Nightingale and Michael Maag all finished in the top six in the 5,000 at Heps earlier this month.
Senior Ken Stringer, second in the hammer at Heps behind Pessala, will also compete in Greensboro, as will standout senior Josh Probst in the javelin throw.
The top five finishers in each event at the East regional are automatic qualifiers for the NCAA championship meet June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif. The next seven finishers after that are placed in a national pool, from which anywhere from four to eight additional athletes may be selected.
Results from this weekend's meet will be available at www.ncataggies.com, and recaps will be available here at GoPrincetonTigers.com.
