May 25, 2006 | Women's Lacrosse
Princeton women's lacrosse players Caitlin Abidin, Katie Lewis-Lamonica, Kathleen Miller and Lauren Vance have each been named IWLCA first-team All-Mid-Atlantic region picks in voting announced Wednesday.
Those four players, along with second-team all-region picks Holly McGarvie and Norris Novak, are now eligible for the IWLCA/USLacrosse All-America teams that will be announced May 30.
Vance, the Ivy League Co-Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-Ivy pick, earned all-region honors for the third year in a row. She led Princeton with 29 caused turnovers in 2006 and finished second on the team with 42 ground balls. Abidin, in her second year as a full-time starter on defense, started all 18 games and had 28 ground balls.
Lewis-Lamonica, who earned all-region honors for the second year in a row, led Princeton with 38 goals in 2006. She finished second on the team with 45 points and 26 draw controls. Miller led Princeton with 55 points this season and was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy pick for the Tigers.
McGarvie, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, earned second-team all-region honors after leading Princeton with 46 ground balls and 44 draw controls in 2006. She also finished third on the team with 22 goals and 28 points. Novak started the last 13 games and finished third on the team with 34 ground balls.
The Tigers' four first-team all-region picks were the most of any school in the region. Hofstra had three, while Johns Hopkins, Penn and Towson each had two.
Princeton finished 12-6 overall in 2006, falling to Dartmouth 7-6 in overtime in the NCAA quarterfinals May 20. The Tigers finished 6-1 in Ivy League play to earn their ninth league title overall and fifth in the last six seasons.
