Incoming Freshman Phoebe Champion Named to Junior National Team

Incoming Princeton women's water polo freshman Phoebe Champion has been selected to the United States Junior National Team that will compete in Greece and Italy in late July. Champion is one of four freshmen that will join the Southern Champion Tigers for the 2007 season.
Champion is a native of Palo Alto, Calif., and played water polo at Palo Alto High School, as well as the Stanford Water Polo Club. She, and classsmates Lauren Sabb, Helen Meigs and Clare Premo, will join a Princeton squad that won the Southern Championship in 2006 for the third-straight season and placed third at Easterns.
Champion and the U.S. Junior Team will begin its competition by training with New Zealand in Los Alamitos, Calif. The first tournament the team will play in is the Pythia Cup in Greece. In Athens, they will compete against Greece, Australia and Germany from July 21-23. From there, the team will travel to Italy to compete in the Citta di Rapallo from July 27-30 against Italy, Russia, Hungary, Netherlands and Australia. This trip will mark the first time the U.S. Junior National Women's Team has competed in Europe since 1999.
