September 19, 2006 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON -- For the second time in three weeks, Princeton freshman Tina Bortz has taken home the Ivy League Rookie of the Week award. Bortz had a goal and an assist in the Tigers 2-1 overtime win against Dartmouth on Saturday,
Trailing 1-0 late in the game, Bortz keyed the Tiger comeback by scoring her team-leading third goal of the season to draw Princeton even with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. The game headed to overtime and there, Bortz set up the game-winning goal with a perfect crossing pass to junior Micaela Vie Brock, who directed the ball into the open net and gave Princeton the win.
With the goal and assist, Bortz now leads the Tigers in all three offensive categories with three goals and two assists to total eight points.
Princeton is now 3-2 on the season and has won its last three games. Bortz and the Tigers are back in action with two games this weekend. On Saturday, they face a tough test when third-ranked Old Dominion visits Class of '52 Stadium at 1 p.m. Princeton continues the weekend with an Ivy League matchup on Sunday at Columbia.
