Hynes Sets School Record, 2006-07 National Best at Princeton Relays Heptathlon
January 16, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
Princeton's Duane Hynes set a school record and fashioned the best score in the nation so far this season with a 5,640-point performance in the heptathlon at the annual Princeton Relays Heptathlon Jan. 13-14 at Jadwin Gym.
Hynes, who also competes in the decathlon in the spring, recorded a personal best in each of the seven Heptathlon events on the way to the school record. He also qualified for the NCAA championship meet in March with the performance.
On the first day, Hynes ran the 60 meters in 7.04 seconds. He then had an impressive leap of 23 feet, three inches in the long jump, followed by a throw of 42 feet in the shot put. Hynes then cleared six feet, eight inches in the high jump to end Saturday's events.
On Sunday, Hynes first ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.54 seconds, then cleared an impressive 15 feet, two inches in the pole vault. He finished the record-setting performance with a time of 2:46.2 in the final event, the 1,000 meters.
Hynes' previous career-best performance in the Heptathlon was 5,329 points, which was the previous school record. His top score in the decathlon was 6,754 last spring.
