The Princeton women's hockey team returns to league play this weekend when it visits the top-two teams in the ECAC Hockey League, Harvard and Dartmouth. Princeton, which ranks third in the league standings, split a non-league series with Ohio State last weekend.
Princeton moved to 10-6-2 overall with its split against ninth-ranked Ohio State. Princeton has now split its last two weekends, dropping the opener and winning the closing game in match-ups with Wayne State and Ohio State.
The split with Ohio State moved Princeton back into the national polls after falling out of the top 10 the previous week for the first time this season. Princeton earned the 10th spot in the polls and meets two teams ranked above it, No. 7 Harvard and No. 4 Dartmouth, this weekend.
Princeton finished its non-conference schedule at 2-4-1 following last weekend's split. In the opener the Tigers fell behind 2-0 early in the third period before a pair of goals from junior Lizzie Keady evened the game, before Ohio State went ahead late. A day later, senior Laura Watt opened and closed the scoring in a 2-1 win over the Buckeyes.
Princeton meets Harvard and Dartmouth for the second time this season as the Crimson and Big Green each defeated the Tigers at Baker Rink in November. Princeton was 8-0-2 overall entering that weekend and will look to avenge those losses on this weekend's trip to New England.
Princeton meets Harvard on Friday night, a team it lost to 5-0 earlier this season. The Tigers are 25-32-2 all-time against the Crimson and are 10-18-1 in Cambridge. The Tigers fell 3-2 in last season's game at Harvard and last won in Cambridge in the fall of 1996. Harvard is 12-3-1 overall and 9-2 in the ECACHL with losses coming at St. Lawrence and Dartmouth. The Crimson last played on Dec. 15, a 4-1 loss at Dartmouth. Harvard is 1-2-1 in its last four games.
The Tigers then travel to Dartmouth to visit the first-place Big Green. Dartmouth, which won 6-3 at Princeton, carries an eight-game unbeaten streak into the weekend and was last in action last Sunday when it edged Boston College 2-1. Princeton is 34-23-3 all-time against Dartmouth and 14-13-0 in Hanover. The Tigers won last year's game at Dartmouth 3-1.
Princeton continues its schedule next Tuesday night when it hosts travel-partner Quinnipiac at Baker Rink at 7 p.m. The Tigers visit Rensselaer and Union the following weekend.
