Parker Henritze Named Ivy League Volleyball Player Of The Week
October 23, 2007 | Women's Volleyball
Junior Parker Henritze has been an Ivy League Rookie of the Year. She's been a first-team All-Ivy selection. She was just named the Ivy League Player of the Week after a brilliant weekend in New England. The only thing she hasn't been is an Ivy League champion, but she took a big step in that direction by leading Princeton to its first 7-0 start in Ivy League play since 1994.
Henritze led the women's volleyball team to a road sweep at Harvard and Dartmouth by recording one of her best weekends of the season. She led Princeton with 5.25 kills per game and recorded 3.62 digs per game, best among all non-liberos. She added six aces and four blocks during the weekend as well. In Princeton's biggest road win of the season, a 3-2 triumph at Dartmouth, Henritze reached the rare 20-20 territory, recording 25 kills and 20 digs in the win.
Henritze joins classmate Lindsey Ensign as 2007 Players of the Week for Princeton, which travels to Cornell and Columbia this weekend. The Friday night showdown in Ithaca will pit the top two teams in the 2006 standings at the site of their crucial season-ending showdown. The experienced Big Red defeated Princeton 3-0 in the final weekend of last season to clinch its third straight Ivy title.
Ensign was named to the All-Ivy honor roll this week. She recorded 4.62 kills per game and hit an impressive .456 in the weekend road sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth. She averaged 1.62 blocks per game and killed her first seven attempts in the 3-0 sweep at Harvard. Against Dartmouth on Saturday, the Ivy League leader in hitting percentage hit .478 with 26 kills.
Princeton enters the second half of the season with a two-match lead on both Penn and Yale, and it can credit its explosive offense for that advantage. Princeton leads the Ivy League in kills, assists and hitting percentage in both overall and conference matches this season. The Tiger triplets of Ensign, Henritze and Sheena Donohue rank second, third and fourth, respectively, in kills during league matches this season. Ensign, whose 4.47 kills per game are second to only Yale's Alexis Crusey (4.64 per game), also leads the league with a .454 attack percemtage. Henritze, who is third with 4.31 kills per game, leads the league with .66 aces per game.
Junior Bailey Robinson leads the league with 13.97 assists per league game, while senior Jenny McReynolds is second with 5.43 digs per league game.
