Women's Hockey Continues League Slate with Clarkson and St. Lawrence

Fresh off back-to-back ties to open the season, the Princeton women's hockey team returns to action for a slate of league games this weekend against Clarkson and fifth-ranked St. Lawrence. Princeton went unbeaten against the pair last season, beating each once and tying each once.

Princeton began the season last weekend with ties against Boston College and Quinnipiac. On Friday, junior Marykate Oakley gave Princeton a 1-0 lead, then, after BC came back to lead 2-1, senior Brittany Salmon scored the game-tying goal in the second period to forge a 2-2 tie. Two days later, junior Annie Greenwood put Princeton ahead 1-0 in the second period, but a Quinnipiac power-play goal in third tie it at 1-1, which was the score where the game ended.
The tie against Boston College was Princeton's third-straight tie against the Eagles to open the season. Overall Princeton has tied its opponent in its season opener in each of the last four seasons. Princeton entered the weekend unbeaten all-time against both Boston College and Quinnipiac. Its two ties continued that streak. Princeton is now 16-0-5 all-time against the Eagles and 5-0-1 against the Bobcats.
Oakley had a hand in all three Princeton goals over the weekend, scoring the first and having the primary assist on the other two. Greenwood, who had a goal and an assist was Princeton's other multiple point-getter last weekend. Salmon, senior Lizzie Keady and freshman Sasha Sherry also contributed points. Junior goaltender Kristen Young stopped 41 of the 44 shots she saw in two games and earned league Goaltender of the Week honors for her efforts.
Princeton opens this weekend against Clarkson on Friday evening. Princeton is 7-0-1 all-time against the Golden Knights and is 3-0-1 at home in the series. Last season Princeton and Clarkson tied 1-1 at Baker Rink and Princeton won 2-0 at Clarkson. In the game in Princeton, Kim Pearce scored the Tiger goal and Young made 29 saves. In Potsdam, sophomore Melanie Wallace had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win.
Clarkson is 4-1-1 overall this season. Last weekend the Golden Knights split a pair of games against Robert Morris. Clarkson had a win and a tie against Niagara the previous weekend.
Princeton concludes the weekend against St. Lawrence. The Tigers are 22-15-2 all-time against the Saints and are 8-9-2 in the series at home. Princeton beat and tied St. Lawrence last season. The Tigers won the first meeting, 6-5, at home in a wild game in which Oakley had two goals and an assist and Young made 46 saves. Later in the season the teams tied 3-3 in Canton. There, Wallace had a goal and an assist, including the game-tying goal late in the third period.
Princeton continues its league slate next weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard.
