Volleyball Runs Streak To Sweet 16, Stays Perfect In Ivies With Sweep At Columbia
October 27, 2007 | Women's Volleyball
Sophomore Sheena Donohue recorded 20 kills and junior Parker Henritze added 17 kills and 19 digs to lead the Princeton women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win at Columbia Saturday afternoon. The win, Princeton's 16th in a row overall and ninth straight in Ivy play, assures the Tigers at least a two-match lead with five to play.
Donohue was the offensive star for the Tigers, hitting an impressive .410 in the 30-23, 30-19, 30-19 victory. Princeton hit .288 as a team and limited Columbia to an .080 attack percentage. Junior middle Lindsey Ensign added 11 kills and hit .261, while classmate Bailey Robinson recorded 48 assists and 11 digs to go along with her three kills and .429 hittin percentage. Junior Jenny McReynolds averaged 7.33 digs per game. Henritze, the league leader in aces, had four in the win over Columbia.
The win completed consecutive weekend road sweeps for Princeton, which needs only four wins in the final five matches to clinch its first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2000. At 9-0, Princeton leads both Penn (7-2) and Yale (7-2) by two matches, although it has road matches against both teams in the next two and a half weeks. Penn swept Cornell 3-0 Saturday, and Yale escaped an upset bid by Dartmouth with a 3-2 victory. Princeton will host a home weekend against both Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
Along with the chase for an Ivy League title, head coach Glenn Nelson is in pursuit of Princeton history. The longtime women's head coach now has 557 victories, only two behind the all-time Princeton record of 559, held by former softball coach Cindy Cohen.
