Princeton stands 1-1-2 overall this season after two weekends of play. The Tigers were unbeaten after three games at 1-0-2 before falling to St. Lawrence last Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers opened the season with ties against Boston College and Quinnipiac and have a win over Clarkson.
Last weekend the Tigers split a pair of games that were similar in flow as the Tigers got stronger as the games went on. Against Clarkson, Princeton jumped to an early lead and held on as the Golden Knights outshot them in the first period. While Clarkson came back to tie the game at both 1-1 and 2-2, Princeton never trailed and senior Marykate Oakley scored midway through the third period to give the Tigers a 3-2 win.
A day later, St. Lawrence jumped on Princeton early, racing to a 3-0 lead with three goals in the game's first 21 minutes. Princeton controlled play from there but could only find the back of the net once as the Saints left town with a 3-1 win.
Oakley continued to lead the Princeton offense over the weekend, posting two goals and two assists. So far this season, the Tigers have scored seven goals and Oakley has been in on the scoring for all seven goals, scoring three and setting up four. Senior Brittany Salmon has two goals and two assists for four points, while junior Annie Greenwood is also averaging a point a game with two goals and two assists. Freshman Sasha Sherry has three assists from the blueline and senior Lizzie Keady has a goal and an assist.
Princeton opens this weekend against Dartmouth on Friday evening. Princeton is 34-24-3 all-time against the Big Green, and the series is even at 14-14 in games played in Hanover. Dartmouth took both games from Princeton a season ago, winning 6-3 in Princeton and 3-1 at home. Princeton swept Dartmouth the previous season.
Dartmouth opened the season a week after the Tigers and has a win and a tie to its credit. Both games were tight at the Big Green topped Vermont 4-3 at home last Friday, then tied Boston University on Sunday afternoon 5-5. The Big Green is the defending ECAC Hockey champion and was an NCAA participant a season ago.
Princeton concludes the weekend at Harvard. The Tigers are 25-33-2 all-time against the Crimson and are 10-19-1 in the series at Harvard. Last season, Harvard shut Princeton out twice, blanking the Tigers 5-0 at Baker Rink and 3-0 in Cambridge. Princeton and Harvard split their games the previous season.
Harvard will open its season on Friday night against Quinnipiac and meet Princeton in its second contest of the season. Harvard has played a pair of exhibition contests and defeated McGill in each. Harvard was also an NCAA tournament participant last season.
Princeton returns to non-league action next weekend, visiting Boston University on Saturday and New Hampshire on Sunday.
