Gimme five?: Princeton has started the season 0-4 on four other occasions (1979-80, 1993-94, 1996-97, 2000-01) and broke the streak in the fifth game in two of those years (1979-80 and 1993-94). This year, Princeton's season-opening skid was extended by its first overtime game since Feb. 1, 2005 when it fell to Delaware State last Saturday.
A yearly thing: Heading into this year's meeting, Princeton and Lehigh have met 20 of the past 24 years since the first meeting in the 1983-84 season. Princeton has won the last two and the Tigers hold the series' longest streak at five from 1990-91 to 1997-98). Princeton holds a 12-8 overall lead in the series and is 7-2 at home, losing only in the 1999-00 and 2003-04 seasons.
Admiring from afar: After putting up 27 three-point attempts against Samford last Friday, Princeton was on pace to top the program record for threes attempted in a season at 652. The pace now is for 608 threes. Princeton and Samford combined to shoot 50 three-pointers, the highest total in a Princeton game since the first Yale game of the 2002-03 season. Princeton's 27 three-point shots were its most since the 29 put up against Wagner in the fall of the 2004-05 campaign.
Patriot games: Princeton has faced every school in the Patriot League all-time except for its most distant member, Holy Cross. Princeton has faced four league schools in the last three seasons, including Army, Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh. Princeton is 48-35 all-time against Patriot League schools and 56 of those meetings (67%) have come against Lehigh or Lafayette. The Tigers have a seven-game winning streak against Patriot schools extending to the 2004-05 season.
For (home) starters: Princeton has won three straight home openers over Monmouth, Lehigh and Wagner. The last time the Tigers dropped a home opener was in the fall of 2003 with the loss coming to Lehigh, 56-53. Princeton is 23-13 all-time in season openers with its 37th such game coming Tuesday. The Tigers had started the season with four road games only twice before, most recently in 2001-02.
Finding her shot: Ali Prichard hit two three-pointers in each game in Alabama, getting a double-double against Samford with 12 points and 11 boards. She followed it with eight points against Delaware State, scoring 20 of her 25 points on the season last weekend.
Samford recap: Princeton led early but played catch-up for most of the game against Samford, which had only six turnovers. The Tigers had the Samford lead down to three with 40 seconds left, but the Bulldogs hit six straight free throws from that point to clear a nine-point win.
Delaware State recap: The Hornets had 20 offensive rebounds and closed a 10-point Princeton halftime deficit to take a late lead Saturday in Alabama. Only a Whitney Downs three-pointer in the closing seconds forced overtime, and Delaware State scored the game's last four points to win 63-62.
Game in, game out: Three Tigers have scored in all four games this season: Whitney Downs, Meagan Cowher and Shelbie Pool, a freshman.
Fore!: Senior golfers aim to shoot their age, but a different kind of senior did so on the basketball court in Princeton's last game when Meagan Cowher, age 21, scored 24 points. So far, Cowher is the only Tiger to score her age this season.
Doubly difficult streak: Meagan Cowher has scored in double-digits in all four games this year. Last season, she started with 11 straight double-digit games.
More double: Meagan Cowher and Ali Prichard are the only Tigers this year to have double-doubles. Cowher's came at Wagner last week with 14 points and 14 rebounds for her 14th career double-double. Prichard had 12 points and 11 rebounds against Samford.
Similar slates: Princeton and Lehigh will play seven of the same opponents this year (Syracuse, NJIT, Sacred Heart, Brown, Yale, Penn, Lafayette).
From way downtown: Seven Tigers have hit three-pointers this year. Whitney Downs leads the Tigers with six. In all, 36 percent of Princeton's shot attempts have come from beyond the arc and 33 percent of the Tigers' field goals are three-pointers.
Watch, listen to the Tigers online: Ed Benkin will call Tuesday's game live on GoPrincetonTigers.com. Princeton is scheduled to broadcast all 30 games this season on the Web free of charge, while video broadcasts of home and select away games, including the Lehigh game, will be available for a monthly subscription through TigerZone.
Familiar name: Princeton assistant coach Milena Flores coached at Lehigh during the 2004-05 season.
Seniors lead the way: Princeton's seniors have scored 98 of the team's 231 points this year or 42.4 percent of the total. Meagan Cowher has 71 of those points, or 30.7 percent of the team's share.
Rebounding is a team effort: All 13 Tigers have at least one rebound this year. Meagan Cowher leads with 34 boards, 23.4 percent of the team total and 8.5 per game.
At this rate...: Meagan Cowher has increased her point total in each of the four games so far, starting with 13 against Lehigh and most recently with 24 against Delaware State with games of 14 and 20 in between.
New streak?: Meagan Cowher scored 20 or more points in seven straight games last year. Her current streak is at two games.
Ten-plus: Four Tigers other than Meagan Cowher have had double-digit point games this year, including Ali Prichard, Addie Micir, Caitlin O'Neill and Whitney Downs.
Freshman filling it up: Addie Micir's 12 points against Delaware State was the first double-digit performance by a freshman since Feb. 24 of last year when Elizabeth Pietrzak had 11 points.
One bird to another: For the second straight year, the Tigers will face Lehigh the week of Thanksgiving. Last year, Princeton visited Bethlehem the Friday after the holiday.
Garden State represented: Princeton has one New Jerseyan in Julia Berger, but Lehigh has two in Haly Crites (Collingswood, N.J.) and Kristen Dalton (Monmouth, N.J.).
On Lehigh: The Mountain Hawks fell by one point in its Nov. 10 home opener to Saint Joseph's but held Fordham to 24 percent shooting in a 46-33 win last Saturday. In just two games, four Mountain Hawks have had double-figure scoring outputs and none more than once.
