Women's Volleyball Stays Unbeaten In Ivies; Nelson Ties All-Time Wins Mark At Princeton
November 03, 2007 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team hasn't lost an Ivy League match at Dillon Gym since 2005, and it completed its second straight perfect home season with a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon against Harvard. The win keeps Princeton two matches up in the Ivy League race, and it gives head coach Glenn Nelson a share of the all-time wins record at Princeton for a coach in any sport.
Princeton, which has now won 18 straight matches, is 11-0 in Ivy League play with three road matches remaining. The Tigers will travel to Brown next Friday night, Yale Saturday afternoon and Penn on Wednesday, Nov. 14. One win in those three matches will give Princeton a share of the Ivy title and two wins will give the Tigers an outright title and their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2001.
Princeton won the match 30-19, 30-19, 27-30, 30-15. Senior Lindsey Ensign recorded 17 kills in 24 swings, while both Sheena Donohue and Parker Henritze both recorded 20 kills apiece. Ensign added seven blocks, while junior Bailey Robinson led Princeton with 59 assists. In her final home match, senior libero Jenny McReynolds recorded match highs in both digs (23) and aces (three).
Nelson has now won 559 matches at Princeton, which ties him for the all-time wins record with longtime softball coach Cindy Cohen. Nelson, who has won more than 100 varsity matches with the men's program and over 1000 matches combined at Princeton (the men's wins, while officially a club sport at Princeton until 1997, are all counted by the NCAA).
