The Princeton women's hockey team looks to rebound from two tough losses with non-league games this weekend at Boston University and top-ranked New Hampshire.
Princeton stands 1-3-2 overall and has lost its last three games, falling to St. Lawrence, Dartmouth and Harvard in succession. Princeton lost the games at Dartmouth and Harvard, both by a single goal after leading late in the third period.
On Friday at Dartmouth, Princeton led 3-2 entering the third period as senior Brittany Salmon, freshman Sasha Sherry and senior Sonja Novak put the Tigers ahead of the Big Green. Princeton held that lead until 13:43 of the third period when Dartmouth tied the game and then the Big Green scored to go ahead two minutes later and won 4-3. Sherry had two goals and an assist in the loss and junior goaltender Kristen Young made 32 saves.
The following day, the Tigers led 1-0 after one period and 2-1 after two periods thanks to goals from junior Annie Greenwood and senior Lizzie Keady. The lead held until midway through the period when Harvard ted the game and went ahead on two 5 on 3 goals in a 1:17 span. All five goals in the game came on the power play. Young made 38 saves in the loss.
Princeton takes a week off from league play this weekend as it travels to New England to face Boston University and New Hampshire. Princeton and BU meet for the first time on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers are 2-5-2 this season and are 0-2 in Hockey East. BU began the season 0-5-2, but enters Saturday's game off home wins against Union and Quinnipiac. BU also has a tie against Dartmouth.
The following afternoon the Tigers will take on the top-ranked team in the country, New Hampshire. The Wildcats split a weekend series to open the season at St. Lawrence and are 7-0 since, including wins over Colgate, Maine and Boston College. Princeton is 4-37-2 all-time against UNH and is 20-0-1 in games played in Durham. The one tie came the last time the teams met, on Jan. 1, 2005 and was a 1-1 tie.
Princeton returns to league action next weekend at home as Cornell and Colgate visit Hobey Baker Rink.
