The Princeton women's hockey team takes to the ice for the final series of the 2007 calendar year when it travels to Union and Rensselaer this weekend. The Tigers enter the weekend two games under .500 and will look to gain some momentum to carry into the holiday break.
Princeton split its series at Colgate and Cornell last weekend, defeating Colgate 4-2 on Friday to take the season series from the Raiders, but were tripped up 3-2 on Saturday at Cornell, as the Big Red completed a season sweep of the Tigers.
On Friday night, the Tigers broke open a 1-1 tie with three goals in the first five minutes of the third period. Senior Sonja Novak scored two goals in the win, including the game winner, while junior and sophomore defensemen Katherine Dineen and Maddie Endicott each added two assists in the win. Junior goaltender Kristen Young made 10 saves for the win.
The following day, Princeton fell behind 2-0 in the first period and got within a goal on senior Marykate Oakley's second period goal. Cornell regained a two-goal leads moments later, before Endicott scored her first career goal to against move the Tigers with one goal, which is where it ended. Senior Lizzie Keady assisted on Oakley's goal as she returned to the Princeton lineup after missing the last two weeks with an injury.
The results moved Princeton to 5-7-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the league. Princeton is currently tied for sixth in the league standings at seven points with Colgate and Yale. Princeton is off following this weekend's game until Jan. 4-5 when it plays a non-league series at Connecticut.
On Friday the Tigers visit Union at 7 p.m. Princeton is a perfect 8-0 against the Dutchwomen and is 5-0 in the series in Schenectady. Last year Princeton topped Union 9-2 at home in November and 5-0 on the road in January. The next day Princeton is at Rensselaer for the third meeting between the two schools. Each team won on its home ice last season, with Princeton taking a 3-2 win at Baker Rink and RPI winning 5-3 at home later in the season.
