Tigers Split Pair at Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO -- The 18th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team split its two games on Sunday at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational, falling to No. 15 Long Beach State 8-7, and defeating No. 12 Santa Clara 8-6. The win placed Princeton 11th in the 16-team tournament.
Princeton began its day against Long Beach State and dropped a tight 8-7 decision to the 49ers. Princeton led the game up to halftime, taking a 4-2 lead into the break, but the 49ers outscored Princeton in the third quarter and took a lead it would hold through the finish. Princeton had a chance late to tie the game and force overtime with a man-up in the games final minute, of Long Beach State held Princeton at bay and won the game.
Senior Jazmin Brown was the lone Tiger with multiple goals, as she scored twice in the loss. Five others added single goals, including senior Elyse Colgan, senior Karina Reyner, freshman Helen Meigs and freshman Lauren Sabb, who all had goals in each of Princeton's first three games. Junior Natalie Kim made 10 saves for Princeton in the game.
Princeton was back in action later in the day against Santa Clara and pulled off an 8-6 win in the game. Complete details from the game will be available shortly.
The Tigers, who now stand 2-2 for the season after their opening weekend play in Maryland's Tournament next weekend. Princeton faced three ranked opponents this weekend and will also face three ranked teams next weekend, as No. 13 Michigan, No. 14 Hartwick and No. 20 Indiana appear on the schedule.
