Wallace Named ECACHL Rookie of the Week
February 12, 2007 | Women's Ice Hockey
Freshman forward Melanie Wallace was named the ECAC Hockey League's Rookie of the Week on Monday following her four-point performance over the weekend in Princeton's three-point weekend in the North Country. Wallace scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's win and the game-tying goal in a tie on Sunday.
Wallace got the weekend started with her sixth goal of the season 1:16 into Saturday's game at Clarkson. That goal stood up to be the game winner in a 2-0 shutout win and Wallace added a helper on senior Kim Pearce's insurance goal late in the game.
A day later, she assisted on Princeton's first goal in a 3-3 tie at fourth-ranked St. Lawrence, which tied the game at 1-1 in the first period. Later in the game, Wallace scored 6:37 remaining in regulation to knot the game at three goals apiece, which is where it finished after overtime.
Wallace's pair of multiple point games gives her four for the season and 16 points overall. That leads all Tiger freshmen and ranks fourth on the team.
Sophomore goaltender Kristen Young was named to the league's honor roll as well. Young made 22 saves to shut out Clarkson on Saturday and turned aside 24 shots in the tie at St. Lawrence.
Princeton is back in action on Friday night against Colgate. The two teams are currently vying for the final home ice playoff spot in the ECAC Hockey League, with Colgate currently holding down fourth, just a single point ahead of Princeton.
