Cornell Downs Princeton 8-4

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell jumped out to an early lead and skated to an 8-4 win on Saturday night over the Princeton men's hockey team. Sophomore Lee Jubinville , senior Darroll Powe and freshman Cam MacIntyre each had two points in the loss.
Cornell took control of things less than a minute into the game when Colin Greening tipped a Byron Bitz pass into the Princeton net to give Cornell a 1-0 lead. The Big Red made it 2-0 at 13:49 of the first period when Evan Barlow redirected a pass from the slot into the goal.
The Big Red padded the lead with two goals in a 56-second span of the first period as Mark McCutcheon scored both goals on the power play. The first came on a 5 on 3 when McCutcheon blasted a shot form the point and the second came on a 5 on 4 and was a rebound.
Princeton got on the board 25 seconds into the second period when sophomore Lee Jubinville notched his ninth goal of the season when he tipped a shot from freshman Cam MacIntyre past Cornell netminder Troy Davenport. Powe started the play when he got the puck to MacIntyre in the Cornell zone.
The goal cut the Cornell lead to three goals, which the Big Red erased a minute later when Bitz scored his first of two goals in three minutes when he was left alone in front. His second goal moments later came on a deflection. Raymond Sawada added two goals later in the period to move the score to 8-1.
Princeton outscored Cornell three goals to none in the third period to make the final score 8-4. Powe scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season 22 seconds into the third period on the power play when he received a pass from Jubinville in the zone and banked a shot in off the far post.
The Tigers made it 8-3 at 6:10 of the period when MacIntyre scored his seventh goal of the season. Senior Grant Goeckner-Zoeller started the play with a pass up ice to MacIntyre, who took a shot that squeaked by Davenport and trickled into the net. Sophomore Brett Wilson also had an assist on the goal.
The Tigers made it 8-4 late when senior Christian Read scored his first goal of the season on a backhander through the legs of Davenport. Senior Brett Westgarth assisted on the goal.
Princeton outshot Cornell 41-29 in the game.
Princeton returns to action on Friday night against Clarkson at 7 p.m.
