Marciano Scores Twice As Men's Hockey Beats #19 Clarkson, 4-3, In Overtime
March 01, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton closed out a weekend sweep of its North Country trip with a 4-3 win in overtime at No. 19 Clarkson, securing its first sweep on the road at St. Lawrence and Clarkson since 2011 and its fifth overall all-time. The win also snapped a 12-game regular season winless streak for the Tigers at Cheel Arena as Princeton had been 0-11-1 in road regular season games against Clarkson since that 2011 sweep.
Nick Marciano had a pair of power-play goals for the Tigers, including the game-winner 0:37 into overtime, to record his first career multi-goal game.
The victory over No. 19 Clarkson is the fourth win over a ranked opponent this season by the Tigers – the most since the 2017-18 team won five en route to a ECAC Championship and a trip to NCAAs.
Jake Manfre opened the scoring with 5:03 to play in the first period, pinballing a shot off a Clarkson defender and into the net for his eighth goal of the season. After a failed clear by Clarkson, Manfre scooped up a loose puck along the halfwall and then faked a defender off his back before circling to the high slot where his shot from inside the blue line clanged off a Golden Knight and inside the left post while the Golden Knight goalie was moving the other way.
Princeton countered with two goals late in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
Just before the end of the period, Nick Marciano tallied a power-play goal to elevate the Tigers' lead to 3-1 with 0:24 to play in the period. Tyler Rubin and David Ma had the assists on the play, with Marciano's shot from the point ricocheting off a Golden Knight and in.
They then tied the game with 10:44 to play when Tristan Sarsland one-timed a power-play goal off a pass from Ayrton Martino.
With 2:54 to play, Clarkson's Jack Sparkes was called for a five-minute major after a hit from behind on David Jacobs. The Tigers quickly took a minor of their own, but survived the final two minutes of 4-on-4 and headed to overtime with an extended look at 4-on-3 to work with.
The Tigers did not need long, however, as Marciano took a Noah de la Durantaye feed and walked to the center before rifling a wrister through a screen and into the top corner for his second power-play goal of the night and set off the Princeton celebration.
