Princeton Splits Pair, Defeats Indiana, Falls to Hartwick

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 17th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team split its two games on Sunday at the Maryland Invitational, defeating Indiana 10-5 in the morning, and falling to 13th-ranked Hartwick 7-5 in the afternoon. Princeton moved to 4-4 for the season having split its games over the past two weekends.
In the morning's game against Indiana, the Tigers shut out Indiana through the half, while jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Both teams scored three times in the third quarter as Princeton held its leading margin on its way to the 10-5 win. Seniors Elyse Colgan and Karina Reyner both scored three times in the win, while four other Tigers added single goals. Junior Natalie Kim made 10 saves in the win.
In the nightcap, Hartwick broke a 5-5 tie with two goals in the final period to claim the 7-5 win. The teams each traded three goals in the first quarter with Hartiwkc scoring once in the second to take a 4-3 lead to the half. Princeton scored twice in the third period to Hartwick's one goal to even the score entering the last quarter, but Hartwick was able to convert on its chances and claim the win. Reyner led the offense with seven shots.
Princeton has next weekend off, before competing in the ECAC Championships March 3 and 4 hosted by Harvard.
