Princeton Men's Golf Finishes 17th at Ron Moore Invite

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Princeton men's golf team finished 17th at the Ron Moore Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., hosted by Denver and Iowa State. John Sawin and Juan Pablo Candela tied for Princeton's top individuals at +2.
Wichita State won the tournament at -33 by 17 shots over Nebraska (-16). Kansas State (-14), Denver (-14), Utah (-11), Colorado State (-8), Southern Utah (-5), Texas-San Antonio (-4), Boise State (+3), Weber State (+4), Iowa State (+5), Northern Iowa (+8), DePaul (+11), Louisiana-Monroe (+18), Air Force (+22) and Wyoming (+37) completed the field ahead of Princeton in the 17-team tournament.
Troy Merritt of Boise State won the individual title at -13, two shots ahead of Denver's Jeff Koprivetz and Wichita State's Cameron Bishop. Ryan Spears from Wichita State fired the low round of 64 in round one.
Among Tigers, Sawin (72-74-72-218) and Candela (73-70-75-218) tied for 38th at +2. Jake Skinner (78-74-79-231) finished 83rd at +15, while Andrew Maliniak (75-79-83-237) tied for 93rd at +21 and Brent Herlihy (81-80-87-248) finished 100th at +32. Max Schechter (76-77-68-221, +5) tied for 62nd and Gregory Stamas (76-77-80-233, +17) tied for 84th as both competed individually.
Princeton will hit the links again in Grasonville, Md., at Prospect Bay Country Club for Towson's Lacrosse Homes Invitational, March 31-April 1.
