Men's Track Shines over Spring Break at Two Florida Meets
March 26, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
The Princeton men's track team competed in two meets during its Spring Break to Florida, a spring meet at the National Training Center March 21 and a two-day meet at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex this past weekend.
Senior pole vaulter Andrew Park was the star for Princeton at the National Training Center, clearing 17 feet, 2 1/4 inches for the second-best mark in program history behind only Kevin McGuire's leap of 17'9". Park's clearance easily qualifies him for May's NCAA regional meet in Gainesville, Fla.
At the same meet, sophomore Alex Pessala also qualified for the NCAA regional meet in the hammer throw with a toss of 183 feet, four inches.
The Tigers then had outstanding performances on both the track and in the field at Disney. Both Justin Frick, with a high jump of 6'10 1/4", and Park, who took the pole vault in 16'1", were event winners. Leading the way on the track were freshman Shafiq Kashmiri, who ran a 21.52 in the 200 meters and 48.20 in the 400 meters, and senior Rich Stewart, who finished the 400 meters in a time of 47.99 seconds.
Princeton's 4X100 meter relay team finished second to a team from Florida State in that race in a fast time of 41.40 seconds. In the triple jump, Nick Crumpton placed third with a mark of 48'1", while freshman standout Eric Plummer was third in the shot put with a toss of 51'7".
The Tigers will continue their spring season this Saturday at Navy, when they compete against Penn, Rutgers and the Midshipmen in a four-team meet.
