Childs Cup Remains in Tiger Hands as Men's Heavies Win Against Penn and Columbia
April 14, 2007 | Heavyweight Rowing
The historic Childs Cup regatta between Princeton, Columbia, and Penn has been all Tigers since 1994 and they made sure that 2007 would be no different. Princeton won the key varsity eight race in 6:07.38, 11 seconds ahead of second-place Penn (6:18.17). Columbia crossed the finish line in 6:21.93. With the victory, the men's heavies push their record to 3-0.
The Class of 2010 also continues to shine this season. The novice eight boat pushed its record to 3-0 by outrowing Columbia by seven seconds and Penn by a whopping 40 seconds.
Princeton returns to Lake Carnegie next Saturday, looking to defend the Compton Cup against Harvard and MIT. The Orange and Black claimed the Compton Cup in Boston last year, an impressive victory for Princeton considering the Tigers hadn't won the Compton Cup on the Charles River since 1957.
