PRINCETON -- The 17-game 2007 Princeton field hockey schedule was announced Monday. Princeton has 10 home games on the schedule, but begins the season Sept. 2, on the road at American. Princeton's home opener is three days later against Penn State.
The Tigers enter 2007 looking for their 16th Ivy League title and their 13th in the last 14 years. Last season Princeton was 11-7 overall and a perfect 7-0 in league play. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals after defeating Old Dominion in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Princeton's schedule features its seven Ivy Leagues, plus games against five NCAA tournament participants from a season ago, including two final four teams, Connecticut and Maryland.
Princeton's first two opponents, American and Penn State, appeared in the 2006 NCAA tournament. The Tigers open on Sept. 2 at American before hosting Penn State the following Wednesday night. Princeton then opens league play by hosting Yale, traveling to Dartmouth and hosting Columbia on three successive Saturdays. Princeton hosts Colgate, a team it last played in 1996, the Sunday following the Columbia game.
Princeton visits 2006 NCAA champion Maryland on Wednesday, Sept. 26, before opening a three-game homestand two nights later against Cornell. Princeton will also face NCAA tournament teams Richmond and Connecticut in the span. Princeton and Connecticut met in the NCAA quarterfinal round last season.
The Tigers spend the next weekend in Providence, R.I., playing a league game at Brown on Oct. 13 and a non-league game at Providence College the next afternoon. Princeton last faced Providence in 1993.
Princeton returns home the following Wednesday to host Lehigh before a trip to Harvard on Oct. 20 that coincides with Princeton's football game with the Crimson. The Tigers then close out their home schedule with night games against Virginia Commonwealth and Monmouth, before the regular season concludes with a night game at Penn.
