Yearly Awards Handed Out at Women's Hockey Banquet

The Princeton women's hockey team held its annual post-season banquet last Saturday night at the Nassau Club in Princeton. The team handed out its five yearly awards and named its captain for next season.
Senior Laura Watt was given the Elizabeth English Trophy, which is presented annually to the member of the women's hockey team, voted by her teammates to be the most valuable player. It is named in honor of Elizabeth English '75, whose efforts helped to establish women's ice hockey at Princeton. Watt was a first-team All-Ivy and second-team All-ECACHL selection this season. She ranked third on the team in scoring with 22 points and led the team's defensemen.
Classmate Kim Pearce received the Patty Kazmaier Award, which is given annually to the senior member of the women's hockey team who has made the greatest contribution to the program during her career and best exemplifies the following characteristics: Loyalty and devotion to Princeton Women's Hockey and determination and perseverance under adverse conditions. Pearce never missed a game in her collegiate career and graduated with 127 points in her 126 games.
Junior Sonja Novak was honored with the Most Improved Player Trophy. It is awarded annually to the member of the women's hockey team that has improved the most and is voted on by her teammates. Novak tallied five points as a junior and became a mainstay in the Tiger offense.
Senior Alison Ralph received the Unsung Hero Award, which is awarded annually to the member of the women's hockey team voted by her teammates to be the team's unsung hero during the season. Ralph appeared in 116 games for the Tigers and was a regular penalty killer and logged important minutes throughout her career.
The Rookie of the Year Award was presented to freshman Stephanie Denino, who emerged as a strong presence on the Tiger blueline. She appeared in every game for the Tigers and tallied three points, in addition to her defensive contributions.
Lastly, junior Lizzie Keady was named Princeton's 2007-08 captain. Keady brings three years of experience at Princeton and a year with the U.S. National Team to the captaincy. She has recorded 70 points in 90 games while playing for the Tigers.
