Women's Water Polo Heads to Maryland for Southerns

The 16th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team heads to Maryland this Saturday as it looks to defend the Southern Championship. The Tigers have won the title the past three seasons and have won it in four of the past six seasons.
Princeton completed the regular season a week ago with wins at Bucknell against the Bison and George Washington. The wins capped a perfect 6-0 CWPA Southern season for the Tigers in which the team swept Bucknell, George Washington and Maryland. Princeton is currently 17-7 overall and has won four-straight games since returning from its Spring Break trip in California.
Princeton is the top seed for the Southern Championship and will face the fourth seed, George Washington, in the first semifinal. Princeton topped the Colonials twice this season already, winning 13-3 and 10-7. The second semifinal will follow Princeton's game and features second-seeded Maryland and third-seeded Bucknell. Princeton has faced Maryland four times this season, winning 15-12 at the UCSD Tournament, 13-7 at the ECAC Championships, and 8-4 and 11-6 in regular season games. Princeton beat Bucknell twice, 15-12 and 12-9.
The top two teams from Southerns, along with the top two teams from the Northern and Western Championships and two at-large teams will advance to the Eastern Championships at DeNunzio Pool on April 28-29. The winner of the Easterns receives the CWPA's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Southern Player of the Week Karina Reyner led the Princeton attack last weekend as she scored seven goals in Princeton's two wins. She now ranks second to Elyse Colgan on the team in scoring as Princeton now has four scorers above the 30-goal mark. Colgan is now ranked 18th in the nation in scoring with her 65 goals. Reyner's 43 goals ranks 53rd.
As a team Princeton ranks seventh in the country in goals per game with 10.6, scoring 255 goals in 24 games. Princeton is the 28th-best team defensively, allowing 8.6 goals per game.
