Facing one of the top teams in the nation, the No. 1 Princeton women's lightweights traveled to the Potomac River in Washington D.C. and picked up a huge win. The first varsity finished in 6:03.8 to defeat No. 4 Georgetown and maintain its unblemished record. The win gave Princeton the Class of 2006 Cup.
Princeton won two of three races in its two-team regatta. The Tigers won the first varsity race by 5.5 seconds, with Georgetown coming in at 6:09.3. The Princeton second varsity posted a winning time of 6:16.2, well ahead of Georgetown's time of 6:43.8. The Hoyas managed a win in the first novice race with a time of 6:19.9, while Princeton finished second in 6:31.1.
"Our coxswains handled the tricky water and unfamiliar course very well," Princeton head coach Paul Rassam said afterwards. "They deserve much of the credit for our wins out there."
Princeton is now 6-0 and will take on No. 5 Radcliffe next weekend on the Charles River.
