Yale Edges Men's Heavyweights For Carnegie Cup

The Princeton men's heavyweights traveled to New Haven, Conn., with its eyes on a repeat win in the Carnegie Cup regatta. The home crew had its own ideas, though, and it edged out Princeton by less than three seconds in the first varsity race.
Princeton is now 6-2 on the year and will finish the regular season against a tough Brown crew on Lake Carnegie. The Tigers did earn a split on Saturday; their first varsity time of 5:30.3 was more than seven seconds faster than Cornell.
Yale and Cornell split the four races Princeton competed in, including the extremely tight first novice showdown. The Big Red won the race in 5:41.8, while Princeton was just off the pace in 5:42.0. The .2-second difference was the closest for any race during the regatta. Princeton finished third in the second varsity (5:49.4) and the third varsity (6:06.4).
