Four Tigers Receive Honors From NJCBA

PRINCETON -- Four members of the baseball team were among those honored when the New Jersey College Baseball Association announced its all-state teams on Tuesday afternoon. Senior third baseman Sal Iacono was named to the first team, while freshman left fielder Greg Van Horn was named the State's Rookie of the Year.
Iacono led the Tigers in most offensive categories, including batting average, hits, doubles and RBIs. The senior completed his Princeton career with his best year in the orange and black, and his .413 batting average was the third-highest single-season average in Princeton baseball history.
Van Horn was one of three rookies that received honors from the NJCBA. Van Horn was named the state's Rookie Player of the Year, as well as to the state's All-Rookie team, where classmates David Hale and Jack Murphy joined him.
Van Horn became the team's everyday left fielder and the team's leadoff hitter in his first year at Princeton. The freshman batted .323 and had 11 doubles and four home runs. He stole eight bases and had a .428 on-base percentage.
Hale appeared in nine games pitching for the Tigers and went 3-2 with a 4.71 ERA. He pitched 42 innings and surrendered 22 earned runs on 39 hits, while striking out 26. Murphy led the team in home runs as the everyday catcher and batted .277 for the season. He was also strong behind the plate, throwing out 16 base runners, 26 percent, during the season.
