Champion to Compete With U.S. Junior National Team This Weekend
June 01, 2007 | Women's Water Polo
Princeton freshman attacker Phoebe Champion was named the USA Water Polo Junior National Team and will compete with the team in three exhibition matches this weekend as part of the Fina Water Polo World League.
The games against the USA National Team, Canada and Puerto Rico will serve to pare down the 17-player roster to 13 for the 2007 FINA Junior World Championships to be held in Porto, Portugal in July.
Champion recently completed her freshman year at Princeton with 35 goals and 20 assists in 25 games. Both numbers ranked her fourth on the Tigers. Champion was an All-Southern selection as a freshman and attended USA Water Polo's Top 40 Tournament in October.
The Palo Alto, Calif. native is one of only two CWPA players selected to the team, joining Michigan's Caroline Frost, and the only one who plays on the East Coast. Fifteen of the seventeen selections are natives of California.
