Champion Named to Junior National Team Roster

Princeton freshman attacker Phoebe Champion was named to the USA Water Polo Junior National Team that will compete at the 2007 FINA Junior World Championships in Portugal this July.
Champion recently completed her freshman year at Princeton with 35 goals and 20 assists in 25 games. Both numbers ranked her fourth on the Tigers. Champion was an All-Southern selection as a freshman and attended USA Water Polo's Top 40 Tournament in October.
The Palo Alto, Calif. native played with the Junior National Team earlier this month in exhibition games against the senior national teams of Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. She and 12 others were selected to the Junior World Championship team from the roster for those games.
The team will have three training sessions leading up the the Junior World Championships, meeting at the Los Alamitos training center in late June and early July. The team will then travel to the Netherlands and train with the Dutch Junior National Team in mid-July before traveling to Portugal for the 16-team tournament. The U.S. will begin the tournament in a pool with Portugal, Germany and Hungary.
