Help Send Chris Young '02 to the MLB All-Star Game
July 02, 2007 | Baseball, Men's Basketball
For the second season in a row, Chris Young '02 has been one of the five National League selections to the All-Star Final Vote. Now the former Tiger two-sport star needs your help to send him to this year's Major League Baseball All-Star game.
Young is 8-3 and has a 2.14 ERA (23 ER/96.2 IP) in 16 games this season and his team is 11-5 when he starts. He currently leads the National League in opponent batting average (.197) and is posting the Major League's lowest home ERA (0.94). He also ranks among National League leaders in ERA (3rd, 2.14), wins (T-9th, eight), strikeouts (T-7th, 90), winning percentage (6th, .727), night ERA (2nd, 2.07) and strikeouts per 9.0 IP (T-3rd, 8.4).
Young has not lost since May 12 vs. St. Louis and in his eight starts since that loss, he has gone 4-0 with a 1.25 ERA (7 ER/50.1 IP), striking out 52 and walking 14. He last surrendered a home run since April 26 at Arizona, working 69.2 homerless innings over 11 starts since that game and that 69.2-inning streak is the longest active homerless streak in the Majors.
Young's National League competition includes Arizona's Brandon Webb, Chicago's Carlos Zambrano, Houston's Roy Oswalt and Pittsburgh's Tom Gorzelaany.
Voting began on Sunday and will continue through Thursday evening. Visit padres.com to vote now.
