Princeton enters the Ivy season in search of its third-consecutive Ivy title and its 13th championship in the past 14 seasons. Princeton has won 15-straight Ivy League match-ups dating back to the start of the 2005 season.
The Tigers are currently 1-2 overall. After dropping a pair of games to start the season against ranked opponents, Princeton got into the win column last weekend against Yale and the Tigers will look to climb to the .500 mark with a win Saturday in New Hampshire.
Last Saturday the Tigers dominated play against Yale in a 2-0 shutout. Princeton outshot the Bulldogs 25-8 and outcornered them 17-3. Junior Holly McGarvie scored her second goal of the season in the 28th minute to put the Tigers on top for good, and junior Sarah Reinprecht's first goal of the season, scored with less than two minutes left in the game gave Princeton a little insurance in the final margin. Sophomore Cynthia Wray made two saves to record her first college win and shutout.
Four players on the Princeton roster have scored goals this season and seven have recorded two points. McGarvie leads the team with two goals and four points. Sophomore Tina Bortz, junior Katie Kinzer and Reinprecht all have scored the goals, while junior Leah Hoagland has two assists, one coming in each of the first two games. Senior Paige Schmidt and sophomore Kaitlyn Perrelle also have assists this season.
Princeton's four opponent is a Dartmouth team that has alternated wins and losses this season and is 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the league. Dartmouth opened the year with an overtime win over Maine, then fell to Syracuse in its opening weekend. Last weekend, Dartmouth edged Brown 2-1 in its Ivy opener, then lost the following afternoon at Providence by a 6-0 score.
Princeton has faced Dartmouth in its second league game since the 2001 season and has a 5-1 record in those games. Princeton is 19-7-2 all-time against the Big Green and is 10-4-1 in games played at Dartmouth. Princeton has won its last two meetings with Dartmouth and edged the Big Green 2-1 in overtime last season. Dartmouth opened the scoring in that game before Princeton rallied to tie in the final minutes on a deflection goal from Bortz. Then in overtime Bortz fed Micaela Vie Brock for the game winner.
The game with Dartmouth is Princeton's lone game of the weekend and the Tigers will have a full week off before returning to game action against Columbia and Colgate at Class of '52 Stadium next weekend.
