Princeton Wins Fourth-Straight, Blanks Colgate 5-0

PRINCETON -- The Princeton field hockey game won its fourth-straight game as it shutout Colgate 5-0 at Class of '52 Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Five Tigers scored in the game as Princeton registered its second straight shutout and its third in four games.
Princeton outshot Colgate 21-11 in the game and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of the game and never looked back. Sophomore Tina Bortz opened the scoring for Princeton when she carried the ball into the circle and scored on a backhanded blast that was beyond the reach of Colgate goalkeeper Sarah Pederson.
Princeton extended its lead to 3-0 with two goals in a two-minute span later in the opening half. First, sophomore Kaitlyn Perrelle scored her first collegiate goal on a shot from the top of the circle that found its way through traffic and into the goal. Junior Kristin Schwab made it 3-0 off a corner minutes later when the carried the ball on the right side of the circle, then placed a shot inside the far post for her second goal of the season.
Princeton padded its lead, while also allowing several player work their way into the game. Junior Leah Hoagland scored on a hard shot from the right side 1:50 into the second half, then sophomore Katherine Cape scored her first collegiate goal when she deflected a Perrelle shot into the Colgate goal at 59:02.
Princeton's two goalkeepers, sophomore Cynthia Wray and freshman Jennifer King, each played a half in goal. Wray got the win and made one save, while King made five saves in the second half.
Princeton is now 4-2 overall and is back in action in three days when it visits second-ranked Maryland at 7 p.m.
