Men's Tennis Rolls Past Brown, 6-1, Into ECAC Invitational Championship Match
September 30, 2007 | Men's Tennis
Despite the loss of No. 1 player Peter Capkovic during doubles play, the Princeton men's tennis team rallied for a 6-1 semifinal win over Brown Sunday and a place in Monday's ECAC Division I Invitational championship match against top seed Penn State.
Princeton, the tournament's No. 3 seed, won all six first sets in singles to make up for the loss of Capkovic, who suffered back spasms early in doubles and was forced to retire, giving Brown the doubles point.
Charlie Brosens lost just three games in a win over Jonathan Pearlman at No. 5 singles, while freshman Ryan Kim lost just five games in a victory over Chris Lee at the No. 4 spot.
Junior Alex Krueger-Wyman won in both singles and doubles on Sunday. He joined sophomore George Carpeni to defeat Brown's Lee and Saurabh Kohli 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, then stepped up to No. 2 singles with the loss of Capkovic and defeated Nate Gorham by scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
Jonathan Leslie stepped into the No. 6 singles spot for the second time in three days and defeated Noah Gardner by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
Penn State defeated No. 4 seed Harvard in another semifinal match Sunday. Monday's championship match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center begins at 9 a.m.
