Ensign, McReynolds Lead Volleyball Past Juniata 3-1
September 30, 2007 | Women's Volleyball
Following an emotional 3-2 victory Saturday night over Penn, the Princeton women's volleyball team needed a strong bounceback effort against Division III powerhouse Juniata. Junior Lindsey Ensign and senior Jenny McReynolds led that effort, and Princeton rallied in a tight fourth game to earn a 3-1 decision for its eighth straight victory.
Ensign led all players with 25 kills and hit .583 in the match, while McReynolds led a strong defensive effort with 32 digs. The outside hitting duo of Parker Henritze and Sheena Donohue combined for 32 kills and 29 digs, while junior Bailey Robinson added 60 assists and 11 digs. The offense hit .258 for the match, but it was a strong defense that kept Princeton going in tough spots. The Tigers recorded 93 digs, with five players recording at least 10.
Princeton won a tight opener 30-28 before losing 30-23 in the second game. Following a 30-20 win in the third game, the Tigers stared a game-four loss in the face twice and never blinked. Down 29-27, Princeton got a sideout with a Henritze kill. A dig on a Juniata hit gave Princeton a chance to even the score, and the combination of Robinson and Ensign went to work. Princeton ran a slide and Ensign drilled the ball off an Eagles defender to even the score. A combo block by Ensign and Robinson gave Princeton a match ball, and Ensign put away her 25th kill of the match and 48th of the weekend.
Princeton is now finished with its nonleague schedule. The Tigers will host Columbia and Cornell next weekend, starting Friday at 7 p.m. against the Lions.
