On Sunday Princeton and American combined for three goals in a seven-minute span midway through the opening period to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. First, sophomore Tina Bortz, a six-goal scorer a season ago, opened the scoring for Princeton, only to have American answer five minutes later. Princeton countered two minutes after that when junior Katie Kinzer found the back of the cage. Kinzer scored seven goals a season ago. Princeton held the 2-1 lead through halftime before American evened the score with 20 minutes left in the game, and the Eagles then won the game with a goal with 39 seconds remaining on the clock.
In addition to Bortz and Kinzer, junior Leah Hoagland and sophomore Kaitlyn Perrelle factored into the scoring with both notching assists. Fourteen Tigers appeared in the game, with sophomore Cynthia Wray and freshman Hannah Cohen making their collegiate debuts. Wray started the game in goal, while Cohen came in as a substitute.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Tigers, who after opening the season against one ranked opponent will face another one on Wednesday. Penn State is 2-1 this season as the Nittany Lions opened the season two weekends ago by sweeping Old Dominion and Virginia on the road. Penn State opened its home schedule on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to UConn.

Last year, Hoagland had a goal and an assist in the Tigers' 3-2 loss at Penn State. Penn State took 1-0 shutouts wins over the Tigers the previous two seasons.
