January 13, 2008 | Women's Ice Hockey
Princeton freshman defenseman Sasha Sherry and her teammates won gold at the IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship this weekend in Calgary. The U.S. team went 5-0 in the tournament and defeated Canada in the title game.
The team breezed through pool play with 11-0 wins over Russia and Switzerland and a 6-2 win against Sweden. That put the U.S. into the semifinals where it downed the Czech Republic 8-0 before meeting Canada in the title game. In that title game, the U.S. team jumped out to an early lead en route to a 5-2 win over the host team.
Sherry appeared in all five games for the U.S. team and notched a goal in the team's opening win over Russia and picked up a pair of assists in the tournament, one against the Czech and one against Sweden.
Sherry, the lone collegiate player on the U.S. roster, will rejoin her teammates on campus this week and will be back in the Princeton lineup when the Tigers resume their schedule on Jan. 29 at Quinnipiac.
