Costello Leads Tigers At Great Dane Invitational
January 26, 2008 | Women's Track and Field
Sophomore LIz Costello was named the women's meet MVP at Albany's Great Dane Invitational after winning the 1,000 meters in impressive fashion. The meet took place at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York City Friday night.
Costello's winning time for the five laps at the Armory was an outstanding 2:49.98. Both she and second-place finisher Heather Iatauro (2:52.26) easily had ECAC qualifying times in the event.
Princeton also won the 800 meters on Friday when senior Liz Bergold finished the four laps in 2:15.90. Freshman Libby Bliss was right behind in third place in that event.
The Tigers also had the top two finishers in the mile in Ashley Higginson and Megan Brandeland, the only two runners to complete the race under the five-minute mark on Friday.
Higginson (first leg) and Bliss (third leg) came back later in the meet to help Princeton win the distance medley relay. The Tiger foursome, which also included freshman Liz Deir anchoring and freshman Katherine Sirico on the second leg, won Friday's race by 16 seconds over second-place Penn.
