STORRS, Conn. ? For the second day in a row, the Princeton women's hockey team skated to a draw with ninth-ranked Connecticut, this time with a final score of 1-1. Senior Brittany Salmon scored for the Tigers, which had tied UConn 0-0 on Friday.
After a scoreless first period, Connecticut broke through for the first goal of the game when Nicole Tritter scored eight minutes into the second period. The goal, which was assisted by Brittany Murphy and Amy Holstein, snapped Princeton's shutout string that last a total of 238:42 dating back three-plus games. Princeton junior goaltender Kristen Young was in net for the whole streak and she now ranks second behind Roxanne Gaudiel's 257:54 streak.
Princeton, which again outshot Connecticut by a wide margin, broke through with a goal of its own to knot the game at 1-1 at 11:50 of the third period when senior Brittany Salmon scored with an assist going to classmate Marykate Oakley. Princeton continued to pressure in the final period, limiting UConn to a single shot, but could not pull ahead and the game went to overtime tied at a goal apiece.
Princeton is now 7-7-4 following the tie and returns home next weekend to host Yale and Brown in league games.
