Princeton Looks for Seventh Win in a Row Tuesday Against Maryland

The 12th-ranked Princeton field hockey team hosts second-ranked Maryland on Tuesday as the Tigers return from a nine-day layoff to play the second game of a five-game homestand.
Princeton enters the game having win its last six games and has not lost since a double-overtime defeat at Connecticut on Sept. 14. The Tigers current run ran to six games with wins two weekends ago against Columbia and Providence. The Tigers won at Columbia to improve to 3-0 in Ivy play 11 days ago, then blanked Providence to move to 9-1 overall nine days back.
Three of Princeton's five goals in the two games came from senior Kraftin Schreyer, whose performance was recognized by the Ivy League when she was named Co-Player of the Week. The senior, who entered the season with two goals scored in 47 games, now has five goals and three assists in 10 games this year. She currently ranks fourth on the team with 13 points.
Princeton scoring leader is freshman Katie Reinprecht, whose seven assists and 23 points are tops on the team. She is also tied for the team lead in goals with senior Holly McGarvie with eight. McGarvie ranks second on the team with 19 points and her goal proved to be the game winner against Providence, her fourth such goal this season. Freshman Kathleen Sharkey ranks third with seven goals and 16 points.
Junior goalkeeper Cynthia Wray recorded her first shutout of the season last Sunday against Providence. Wray is now 5-1 overall with a 1.79 goals-against average. She, along with sophomore Jennifer King, has held opponents to just 1.27 goals per game this season, while the Tigers have averaged 4.21.
Princeton currently ranks high nationally in several offensive categories. The Tigers are fourth in goals per game, scoring margin and winning percentage. Princeton's 10.1 penalty corners per game in the second highest mark and the Tigers are in the top 10 in assists and points per game. Reinprecht is only Tiger to rank nationally in the top 10 in a category. She is eighth with 2.88 points per game and ninth with 0.88 assists per game.
Reinprecht and Sharkey, along with junior Kaitlyn Perrelle will return to the Tiger lineup on Tuesday after missing last Sunday's game with Providence. The trio helped the United States win a gold medal at the Junior Pan-Am Tournament in Mexico City.
Princeton held steady at No. 12 in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll this week. Princeton is 2-1 this season against ranked teams with wins over Penn State and Albany and a loss to UConn. The Tigers have ranked opponents?Maryland and American?and teams receiving votes?Cornell and Villanova?remaining on their schedule. Providence, which Princeton beat last Sunday, entered the poll at No. 19 following its loss to the Tigers.
